Top 10 Ideas for Lent
- Try a digital detox. Pick one day a week (or every day of Lent) to unplug from TV, streaming services, social media, texting, and email. Use that time to read, pray, and reflect.
- Give up a favorite food or drink. Whether it’s coffee, soda, fast food, or sweets, let go of something you enjoy as a way to focus on God. Donate the money you save to a charity to help those in need.
- Create a quiet time. Spend 10 minutes each day in silence and prayer. Read a daily devotional and see how it shapes your faith journey beyond Lent. See below for links to various devotionals.
- Practice gratitude. Write a thank-you note each week to someone who has made a difference in your life. Notice and appreciate the small blessings around you.
- Start a prayer habit. Each day, visit The Upper Room’s prayer wall and pray for someone in need.

6. Pray as you go. As you walk, drive, or commute, take time to pray for the people you see along the way.
7. Choose forgiveness. Let go of a past hurt, even if the other person doesn’t “deserve” it. Consider reading a book on forgiveness to guide you.
8. Give your time. Volunteer each week at a shelter, food pantry, tutoring program, etc. Lift up the world in prayer as you serve.
9. Use visual prayer. Visit Sight Psalms and reflect on images that inspire meditation and prayer.

10. Go deeper. Take an online course or join a study group to enrich your faith during Lent.
